Nader vote trading this year?

I traded my vote in 2000 and I'm starting to wonder if this might be a small piece of insurance we shouldn't overlook this year.

I found this site:
http://votepair.org/

and it seems to be legit.

The reasoning ought to be the same as last time:  if you're a Kerry voter in either a Kerry OR Bush 'safe' state, you are paired with a Nader voter in a swing state.  You vote Nader in your 'safe' state, and your counterpart votes Kerry in their swing state.  Each side of the transaction benefits.

The VotePair site seems to be foolproof.  You can't proceed if your state isn't safe.

Any thoughts on this?  Good idea?  Bad?  Waste of energy?

I know that there are varying opinions on "The Nader Factor" this year.  I can't help but feel that even a few Nader votes could cause us big trouble -- depending on where they're cast.

Very Bad Idea (none / 0)

A vote in a safe state will only strengthen Nader to get funding from the GOP as a shill to dilute DEM votes.  Nader is not running to win.  He is running to defeat DEMs and to repeat GWBush for four more years with GWBush's stated agenda for the next two years until he truly would be a lame duck.

This concept of a "safe state vote exchange" suggests that the proponent is neither an idealist nor a pragmatist.  They are unwilling to vote regardless of the consequences [i.e., vote for the loser Nader], nor are they willing to fully consider the pragmatic consequnces of their conduct [i.e., recognize that a "safe state exchange" benefits GWBush].

You are either part of the solution or part of the problem.

I grew up believeing in Nader and followed until recently his statements about the polarization of wealth in the United States.  He has now turned [probably because of perceived but unintended insults from the DEMS].

Anyone else care to weigh in? (none / 0)

I suspect he'll be back in 2008 no matter what happens to him -- percentage-wise -- this time.  Because he's showing himself to be an egoistic stubborn jerk. And the GOP will happily fund his butt again and he'll accept it and go on mouthing lies about how 'there's no difference between the two parties.'

I don't want his potential 1% in Florida to lose the state to Bush if it's as close again as 500 votes.

Any more discussion on this?  I'm really looking for thoughts on both sides before I decide whether to recommend vote trading to friends and family.

Thanks.

Nader vote exchange (none / 0)

I vote not to feel good about expressing my opinion -- I have other ways of doing that.  I vote in hopes of influencing how things really go in this country.  I live in Nebraska, so I am seriously considering doing this exchange thing.  Where would it likely be most helpful for us to try to reduce Nader's showing?
